'All The World's a Stage'
window & garden art competition organised for CoCoMad 2020

This year the beloved Cocomad (Cotteridge Community festival of Music, Art & Dance) went online, and Friends of Cotteridge Park invited us to join in the fun by organising an art competition for families in the area.
We asked the community to create amazing and inspirational front window or front garden artworks celebrating the wonders of the performing arts - theatre, dance, circus and music. We were so impressed with the quality and ingenuity of all of the entries! You can see pictures and find out who won below.
Huge thanks go to Arts Council England for enabling Friends of Cotteridge Park to put on a very different kind of Cocomad in 2020. You can visit the Virtual Cocomad website: www.cocomad.online for more information, festival videos and activities.

The winning entries were:
1st place: entry number 1 - a spectacular display celebrating the magic of the circus, including a tight rope walker, circus tent, and acrobats hanging in front of the door.
2nd place: entry number 11 - a joyous ode to music took over this hedge and front garden, with cardboard instruments arranged amongst the flowers.
3rd place: entry number 13 - a crowd of festival goers amongst the trees watch the performers on stage - an incredible amount of work went into this fantastic display.

Congratulations to the winners and well done to everyone else who took part - judging them was really challenging!
Fancy having a go at creating your own window or garden art?  Have a look at the images below for a bit of inspiration!
As you can see, there's a lot you can do by recycling or reusing materials you might be able to find around your house or in the garden.

'Junk' sculpture...

What can you make with all of those bits and bobs that have been lying around in the house? What can you make with flower pots, old toys, garden equipment, plastic bags, spare bed linen etc?

Cardboard Creations...

Pablo Picasso was well known for creating musical instrument sculptures from cardboard - what can you make? Have you been saving all of those toilet rolls? You could make puppets, dancers, theatre characters...

Painted pavements or walls...

Chalks are a great way to make art if you have good steps or a front path. There are plenty of easy recipes on the Pinterest board for making safe, washable outdoor chalk and mud paints.

Nature creations...

What can you make using natural objects (from your own garden!) - twigs, leaves, flowers, branches?

All the front window is a stage...

Planning something for indoors? What could you do to make your front window fit for the performance of a lifetime?
